Xaeja, pronounced ( zay'jha ) is the alter ego of Melbourne
based electronic musician Darren McKinty.
Darren is a keyboard player, guitarist, vocalist, song writter,
digital audio recording engineer / producer and a confirmed
chocoholic.
As a solo artist, Darren has been composing music since the
late '80s and has performed in or session-recorded with various
Melbourne-based cover and original bands prior to developing
Xaeja, notably 90's funk-rap lineup ' Nobody's Voodoo and
rock cover band 'Partners in Crime '
Darren has also written musical scores for theatre, independent
films, student films, and student TV.
Generally taking a more melodic approach to electronic composing,
and combining smooth vocals with a rich soundscape of music
and rhythm, Xaeja has created his own distinctive style, which
ranges from 'Darkwave' to 'Ambient Groove' and everything
in between.
As an active member of the Melbourne based Opus Collective,
a group of electronic musicians working together to promote
and release their music to the world, Darren has released
several tracks appearing across the three albums released
to date as well as performed live in promotion of these CDs.More
information about the Opus Collective can be found at
www.opuscollective.org.au
As a live unit Xaeja expands to a four piece with Darren up
front on vocals, Sandra Bogerd on keys and backing vocals,
Chris Holt from ' Doghowz ' handling guitar & keys as
well as Richie Hausberger from prog metal band ' Enter Twilight
' also on guitar.
Darren has also filled the role of audio engineer for Melbourne-based
folk singer AcousticA over his last couple of releases. |
